Texas Secession

Texas was the seventh state to secede and the last to secede before the firing at Fort Sumter signaled the start of the Civil War. South Carolina led the charge in December of 1860, right after the election of Abraham Lincoln. The people of Texas had differing views on whether Texas should secede or not, particularly in light of the many recent transformations Texas had gone through beginning with Independence from Mexico, becoming its own Republic, and then being Annexed to the United States. Though Texas would secede, there were many opponents, including Sam Houston.

For this Enrichment Activity, I want you to make an argument either for or against Texas secession based on the module readings-make sure you use evidence to support your argument.
