ORIGINAL QUESTION:
Suppose you are interested in how children with severe autism experienced the receipt of special education assistance in public schools. This population is characterized by underdevelopment of social cognition, social skills, and language skills. What is the best method for collecting data to answer your research question? Why is this method best? How would you describe the research design?

WRITE A RESPONSE TO THE FOLLOWING POST:
When a researcher is interested in investigating aspect of persons perception of a phenomenon the best methodology would be would be qualitative. A qualitative approach encompasses a systematic and subjective style intended to explain and to provide meaning to life experiences (Walker, 2016). Researcher Nancy walker also suggested that a qualitative approach is needed to analyze the how and why to answer unambiguous questions based upon a specific population. In this instance, the intended research is interested in analyzing the perception children with severe autism have of the special education assistance in public school. A qualitative design allows for the researcher to notice and explore the problem in a real-world setting as well as allowing the collected data to be emergent from the process and not manipulated or controlled (Walker, 2016). One design that will allow the researcher to gather information from the teacher, staff member, and parents is a descriptive design. Using a descriptive design, the researcher could give teacher, staff member, and parents survey, questionnaire and conduct interviews discussions the programs ability to service the needs of the students underdevelopment of social cognition, social skills, and language skills (Turale, 2020). The information obtained from teacher, staff member, and parents will be compared and vetted for connections and disparities of their perspectives, observations or experiences from the parental experience (Turale, 2020).
