Paraphrase a Poem

Read Responding to Poetry, p. 746-54. Note how the reader systematically works through the poem, paraphrases it to understand it better, and then writes about it. Note that pages 748-49 illustrate how to do a line-by-line paraphrase.

Select one of the following poems and paraphrase (line-by-line) it in your own words. Be sure to look up any vocabulary you do not understand. Follow your paraphrase with one or two sentences that state the theme.

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, 738
