After completing the Learning course for this week, consider “John’s Story” throughout the lesson.

Have you ever experienced a similar situation within the healthcare industry? Either as a patient, a family member of a patient, or as an employee of a healthcare system?  If not, think of a close friend or family member and use their story to walk through this exercise.

First, apply the “Victim’s Questions” to the situation.  Answer each for your situation. 

Next, apply the “Player’s Questions” to the situation.  Answer each for your situation.

Next, explain why it was so hard or why it would be so hard to go from a “Victim” to a “Player” for your situation.  Was there a “hero” in your situation? Why or why not?

Lastly, explain how you as a manger or a leader could empower others around you to become players and heroes rather than victims.
