The overall grade in this course will include a paper that deals with some current research topic in inorganic chemistry. The paper should include 4-8pages of single-spaced text including additional figures and references. The paper should be written using a standard template for communications to American Chemical Society journals, available at http://pubs.acs.org/page/jacsat/submission/jacsat_templates.html
A paper willbe worth 25% of the overall grade. A paper will be graded based on content, clarity of presentation, and comprehension of the material. A paper should contain your original text, copying parts from books, research articles, etc. verbatim, is prohibited.
The purpose of a paper is to provide a short and concise review of a chosen topic. The material should include (1) a brief review of the subject area, (2) an identification and importance of the existing problems, (3) a description of approaches to solve these problems, and (4)a future outlook of the subject area. These items should be related as much as possible to the material discussed in the class lectures.
Ideas for paper topics can be taken from recent review and perspective articles from journals like Advanced Materials, Materials Today, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Inorganic Chemistry and Chemistry of Materials. Other potential sources for ideas are recent issues of C&E News, Science and Nature family journals.
