(iPhone as a designed object) UX design of iPhone and it’s success not monetary wise but focus on it’s success in enslaving/encapsulating us/our attention- we are totally attached to out phone and the design keeps us constantly engaged.

The topic is on critical analyzing the UX design of the iPhone and why that design is so successful. Meaning how this “successful” design is one that makes everything so easy to become so attached to our device. So basically why the iPhone’s design ( surface design and easy features) make it a device like no other that captures people’s full attention and people become obsessed with their phones.

Thesis:
The introduction of the Iphone within society has warped the current generation’s human interaction and communication skills as well as self esteem and attention spans. The strategic UX design of the iphone within material culture and technological advancement has caused a disengagement within social interactions and has negatively affected the users psychological behavior.

Abstract:
Since the first release of the iphone in 2007, designers of the Iphone have presented many new models of the Iphone that have a slight variation in screen layout. As the Iphone models have progressed, the screens have become wider and the most prevalent feature of the product. This strategic design is a purposeful decision. The Iphone is all screen now, it has become this mirror, this vortex that encapsulates peoples psyche. People probably don’t even realize they are holding this 6 inch long device that has become an opening to an alternative reality, a portal to different concentrations, an escape from the presence. It seems that people are losing their ability to for human connection and foster a relationship with the present. Users of this device have allowed the Iphone to become their drug, falling into obsession with a six inch device. The Iphone has become this transitional object, this substitution for in person social interaction. The Iphone has allowed users to trade direct  human to human interaction for indirect contact communication through a hand held portal. On average, according to a recent study, Iphone users have been observed to be on their phones more than 4.5 hours daily.

Please make sure to speak heavily about its design – surface size, maybe the size of it and how maybe over time it has been remodeled over and over again to be more screen/smaller/larger and why that is (to be more encapsulating/ almost forget you’re looking at a phone), the thumb button/home button is not Face ID, why it is so success as a model than any other device- maybe compare to android shortly.

Talk about maybe how apps are bought, the ease of it now, (the face ID double Tap feature).

In conclusion, make sure this all ties in well together to round back to the thesis – how this success rendering/UX design of the newest iPhones have been able to completely enslave us to our phones – and how that has negatively effected out psychological  behavior – social interactions, disengagement with the world around us while on our phones, attention spans ( becuase actions on the iPhone are made to easy).

This is more a paper analyzing an object of deign – the iPhone’s UX design rather than psychological effected – please stay focused on UX design and how it connects to that.

Please use scholarly sources and cite in Chicago citations. It is important that there is nothing in the paper that is not probably cited – a my university is strict about that.

Use sources like JSTOR and others.

P.S – again – may be confusing – do not focus too much on different apps or social medias on the iPhone if you are going to talk about apps talk about how easy it is to access, navigate, how maybe on the iPhone the apps works better or appears better on the screen – why that is an element of design.
