We have covered some fundamental concepts in micro-economics. In particular, we have discussed concepts of demand. The concept of price elasticity has multiple applications across health care and public health. 

Please read, posted within your Blackboard folder for additional readings in week 5, the article: “Understanding Price Elasticities to Inform Public Health Research and Intervention Studies: Key Issues”, and contribute to the discussion in the following way: 

By Thursday, in a post of approximately 300 words, answer the following prompt. 
* Provide a brief synthesis of what the article is about, and two to three implications to an area that you are interested within health care (e.g., hospital administration, design of care delivery service lines, health insurance, etc). 
* Consider how individual preferences play a role, as well as how substitution and income effects may play a role in overall market demand for a good or service. 
* Consider what are some key challenges in obtaining data or estimating price elasticities. Are these challenges more or less pronounced in some goods or services within health care?
