Essay Proposal

Essay Proposal:

Each student is required to complete a proposal in anticipation of their final essay that compares one of the films covered in the course with one of the following films available on Criterion-on-Demand: Dirty Dancing (1987), Footloose (1984 or 2011), The Full Monty (1997),Hairspray (2007) or How She Move (2008). (Other dance films that are not on Criterion-on-Demand and/or not covered in the course may be considered with permission of the TA). As part of the proposal students must identify and cite three scholarly secondary sources using MLA citation. Only one secondary source may be from the required readings.

1. Select a film from the course that you will be using for your assignment. Your film choices are:
Save the Last Dance (2001)
Street Dance 3D (2010)
Strictly Ballroom (1992)
Mad Hot Ballroom (2005)
Mao’s Last Dancer (2009)
Cabaret (1977)
Saturday Night Fever (1977)
Flashdance (1983)

2. Select a film not covered in the course that you will be using for your assignment. Your choices are:
Footloose (1984)
Dirty Dancing (1987)
The Full Monty (1997)
Hairspray (2007)
How She Move (2008)
Footloose (2011)

3. Please provide a topic sentence that includes the theory, term or concept(s) you will be using and a rationale for why you think this is an appropriate or interesting combination? The topic sentence section should just be 1-2 lines.

4. Please provide your first scholarly source using MLA formatting. Here is how to cite a journal article:
Author(s). “Title of Article.” Title of Journal, Volume, Issue, Year, pages.
Here is how to cite a chapter in a book or anthology:
Last name, First name. “Title of Essay.” Title of Collection, edited by Editor’s Name(s), Publisher, Year, Page range of entry.
Here is how to cite a book:
Last Name, First Name. Title of Book. Publisher, Publication Date.

5. Please provide a second scholarly source that you will be using in your essay. Here is how to cite a journal article:
Author(s). “Title of Article.” Title of Journal, Volume, Issue, Year, pages.
Here is how to cite a chapter in a book or anthology:
