The topic focuses on the experiences of young adult volunteers from low-income communities. Volunteerism contributes to the accumulated assets at this life stage of young adults and their ideology on social perception (Christoph et al., 2014). The fundamental concepts of the study are to discover participants’ perceived benefits of volunteering, the motivations for volunteering (Jardim and Marques da Silva, 2018), and the types of volunteering opportunities experienced (MacNeela, 2014). Benenson and Stagg’s research on youth volunteerism (2016) identified influential factors of career outcomes, self-sufficiency, and drive for community support.
 
The study will advance the field of Human Services; with a specialization in Nonprofit Management and Leadership, through exploring the perceived benefits of past volunteering among individuals ages 22 to 30 years. The study will be significant to the field by helping government, and nonprofit sectors address volunteer management concepts and increase participation in volunteering groups, particularly among low-income youth (Ertas, 2016) where asset development is vital to their futures (Christoph et al., 2014).
