Be sure to use the dataset attachment provided (do NOT access the US Bureau of Labor Statistics website to get the dataset)
General Description: – Written Assignment #2 builds on Written Assignment #1:
In Written Assignment #1 you chose five variables from the dataset attachment provided (“SE – Income”, two additional socio-economic (“SE” prefix) variables, and two expenditure variables (the “USD” prefix variables) to analyze.  USE THESE SAME FIVE VARIABLES in Written Assignment #2.
In Written Assignment #1 you identified what measures of central tendency and dispersion (if applicable) you would use to analyze each variable.  In Written Assignment #2 you are required to actually do the calculations of these measures.
In Written Assignment #1 you identified what graph/chart/table you would use to depict the analysis you did for each variable.  In Written Assignment #2 you are required to actually make those graphs/charts/tables.
Use the template attachment, “fill it in”, and upload it along with your graphs/charts/tables to complete your submission!
Please be sure to submit your Descriptive Statistics Data Analysis and Writeup no later than 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on the Sunday of the fourth week of the class. Please use all the 30 observations in the given data set for your analysis.

The instructions tell you what the deliverables are and what percentage of the 50-point total grade each task is worth.  Here’s what the assignment is looking for in each area:

Identifying Information/Introduction:  xx out of 5 points

All items listed under this task in the instructions are pretty easy to enter.  No one should lose points here.
Data Set Description and Method Used for Analysis:  xx out of 5 points

A brief description of the data set (e.g., sample size, who was surveyed, total number of variables in data set, etc.) and of the method you use to do your data analysis (MS Excel, TI-8x series calculator, LEO classroom Content > Course Resources > Free Web Applets & Statistical Resources, etc.).  A researcher would need this information to be able to successfully reproduce your results, which is a requirement for statistical analysis.  A two-sentence writeup would cover this task easily!
Descriptive Statistics Data Analysis Results:  xxx out of 25 points (max of 5 points awarded per variable)

Variable 1:  SE – Income:
median and sample std deviation calculations – I’ll check to see if I can duplicate your calculated values
histogram – I’ll check to see if your histogram is accurate
I’ll look for your description of findings for the analysis you did on this variable (comments on distribution? skew? any possible outliers in data?  Stuff like that).
How do you know if you have a potential outlier?  Check out Kozak Chapter 3 or take a look at Content > Course Resources > Worked-Out Example Problems > STAT 200 Week 2 Worked-Out Example Problems in our LEO classroom to see how to use “interquartile range” (IQR) to find potential outliers.  I know which variables have potential outlier raw scores and what those raw scores are, and I’m going to look to see if you can identify them as well.

I’ll be looking for a no-more-than-2-paragraph summary that addresses findings for which you presented results. The “Discussion and Conclusion” task asks you to briefly discuss each variable in the same sequence as presented in the results. What has the highest expenditure? What variable has the lowest expenditure? If you were to recommend a place to save money, which expenditure would it be and why?
Writing Quality:  xx out of 5 points

If your submission is logical, easy-to-follow, and presents your descriptive statistical analysis, results, and findings in a way that I could easily duplicate what you did, you’ll get all 5 points.
