Scholars,

The last Discussion Board post asked you to discuss two goals early Black authors (1748-1865) shared, and you observed that  they resisted oppression and demonstrated Black people’s humanity.

This week, we have begun discussing the shifting goals of Black writers during the late-19th through the early-20th century (1865-1918).  These writers had other reasons for writing:  one, they confirm Black people’s creativity and genius;  two, their work documents Black people’s experiences post-Emancipation; and  three, the literature shapes their social, political, and spiritual aspirations.

Identify ONE author we have read who wrote during the period of Reconstruction (1865-1877) and/or through the early part of the 20th century (1878-1919) who accomplished at least two of these objectives.

Please suspend the desire to post a response until we have read a few more authors.  You might really enjoy some of the authors we will discuss later in the week.
