The purpose of the Current Event Assessments is to develop further understanding of the tools and techniques discussed in class and the readings by extending our practice to real-world applications. In your assessment, you will analyze the current event using the topics discussed in class and the readings.
Choose a current event to analyze.
Current events must have occurred within 45 days from the start of class. The current event you choose can be about any topic as long as there is a negotiation that takes place. A negotiation is considered a discussion between two or more parties driving towards an agreement. Decisions, just as court decisions, or announcements do not qualify.
Your selected current event also should be complex enough and have enough information available so that you can provide a comprehensive analysis using all the major topics covered in class. For highly complex issues, please focus on one or two areas of the negotiation.
Please provide a link to your chosen article in your write-up.
Analysis of current event.
You review the current event through the major topics covered in class, explaining how each topic was applied (for example: what were each parties interests, how did they understand the interests of the other party(ies), and effective were the options generated).
Your approach
Finally, you will discuss how you would have approached the negotiation.
