Purpose:  The literature read this semester supports two premises:

Technology can become dangerous, and/or
Individual freedom is to be treasured.   

You are to choose one of the above topics and either “Harrison Bergeron,” or “The Machine Stops”  and support the claim of the work using database research.  (See below sample intro and outline.)

This essay must include quotes from at least two acceptable academic sources

These must be appropriately cited on an accompanying works cited page.

Subject:  Again, prove (this time, using database research) that either technology can become dangerous OR that individual freedom is to be treasured. Audience:  Peers & Professor and *The Freelancer  (The English Department literary magazine.)  Purpose:  To use research to support the narrative argument of your chosen story and  to write well enough to be considered for publication.

This essay must:

–have an opening paragraph that introduces the chosen piece of literature and the author, briefly summarizes the works theme as noted above, and leads to a clearly stated thesis sentence..
–indicate mastery of the English language.
–include quotes from the story as well as quotes from at least two academic sources that are parenthetically cited per MLA. Reference Purdue OWL MLA: in-text citations.
–be at least 700 words in length.  (Note length at end of paper.)
–follow traditional MLA format. Reference Purdue OWL MLA 8th edition.
–NOT be plagiarized.
–be written in 3rd person. Review again; Content–Introductory materials–3rd person writing! A must of this an MLA paper.
–Utilize Tutoring.  (Again, please note that your tutoring experience will be addressed in your final exam!)
–have a submitted tentative Works Cited page turned in by OCTOBER 4th.
ESSAY DUE: Oct. 11th (Submit in Drop Box: Essay Two. Be sure to submit per “how to submit assignments” instructions, so I can access grading toolbar, okay?)  NO LATE PAPERS ACCEPTED.
