Effects of advertising on children

In this essay assignment you choose a media issue and set out a line of argumentation that works towards a conclusion in which you outline whether you, as a Communication Scientist, see the issue as an actual problem for the (Dutch) (consumers) society.

Sources: provided essay with arguments for and against the chosen media issue & at least three self-searched empirical scientific articles on the media issue.

At its core, every scientific essay has the following structure:
–    Title: an original title that covers the content of the argument and at the same time makes it clear what the essay is about; the latter can optionally be in a descriptive subtitle.
–    Introduction: The introduction explains what the essay is about. The chosen topic (or media issue) is introduced here. In other words: What is the problem and why.
–    Middle part: In the middle part the main points of the argumentation are elaborated. This makes clear which arguments are used by supporters and opponents of the chosen theme.
–    Conclusion: In this you formulate a final argument containing your own conclusion about the seriousness of this specific media issue in today’s (Dutch) consumer culture. In other words: you map here why you agree with supporters or opponents and why.
–    Reference list: lists all sources used according to APA publication regulations

Assessment of the essay will pay attention to: structure, completeness of source use, correct representation of content sources, logic in reasoning, level of reasoning and the extent to which the conclusion is well-considered and clearly formulated.

You need to use the article of J. Walker Smith & Dan Panici and at least three self-searched empirical scientific articles on the media issue.
