MAJOR ESSAY #1 ILLUSTRATION ASSIGNMENT SHEET ~ FALL 2020
When writing an illustration essay, you use specific examples or evidence to clarify and explain your main point (your thesis). Illustration writing is the type of writing that college students are expected to do for other college courses and exams because you must support your main idea (thesis statement) with examples. An illustration essay is also another name for an expository essay. 
Choose one of the following topics for your essay:
1. What are the top three places to have a first date? Explain.
2. What are the top three low cost and/or free things to do with friends and still considered enjoyable? Explain.
3. Which celebrity, athlete, or musical artist is a good and/or bad role model for young adults (i.e., teenagers and people in their young 20s)? Pick only one person. Explain.

Essay Requirements: Youll have at least five paragraphs (one intro, three body, and one conclusion) with a word count of at least 800 to 1,000 words; it is acceptable to go over 800 words.

– MLA heading and formatting required for all drafts even if you handwrote the first draft.

– Do not use the word you or any form of the word you in this essay. However, I, we,
them, our and they are allowed in this essay.

– Proper grammar, usage, mechanics, punctuation, and spelling are necessary for this and all essays.

– If you are using a source in your essay, you must give credit to that source in the sentence where you are presenting someone elses words!
Simple Source Attribution Example: According to a BBC article, 10 Pop Stars Who Donated Unbelievable Amounts of Money, Bruno Mars donated one million dollars from one of his Michigan concerts to help the city of Flint with the water contamination problems they were having.
