To complete this assignment, similar to the Personal Dance Heritage Project, you will identify and research a social dance then write an essay that summarizes your research.

Directions:
1.) Choose a social dance that interests you. **This should not be the same as your personal dance heritage project. If it is I will ask you to re-do the essay.** Comment below with the dance that you choose.

2.) Research your chosen social dance by identifying both primary and secondary sources. Please use at least four (4) sources. If you need help finding sources let me know.

3.) Write a 750-1000 word essay on your social dance. Your essay should include an introduction, body, and conclusion, in-text citations and a works cited page. Please note that this assignment uses the Google Classroom “Originality Report” which checks for plagiarized writing.

Your essay should include the following content:
*Provide a history of the dance, including when, where, and how it developed.
Additional questions you might attend to are:
    * Who dances? (trained dancers, anyone, only men, only women, only childrenetc.)
    * When do they dance? (for special occasions, certain types of ceremonies, dailyetc)
    * Where does the dance happen? (on stage, in a sacred place, in the streetetc)
    * What is the function and significance of the dance? Why is the dance performed?
    * What inspires the movements?
    * Describe the dance. What type of movements do you see?
    * What is the typical dress of those dancing?
    * What is the music and what is the relationship between the dancing and the music as well as the dancers and musicians?
    * What aspects of the culture do you feel this dance reflects?
