In 2014 during the Ferguson Missouri riots and as recent as the Baltimore City Police Riots last month, an increase in protests against police use of excessive force has created conflict between police and communities across the United States. As a result debates concerning how the police culture can be changed and managed is on the rise.
21st century policing has enabled the use of technology to assist police in doing their jobs. For example, body worn camera technology is gaining popularity among many police departments because of their ability to film on scene interactions, which can be reviewed later if police are accused of misconduct or use of force.
Many advocates believe that the use of body worn cameras can minimize/reduce allegations of police misconduct and break down the barriers surrounding the police subculture.
