STEP 1: From the following list select 3 of the commodities that we discussed/were mentioned in class to use in this assignment.  You must use 2 examples that come from class lectures/videos and 1 example drawn from the assigned readings

Class Examples: Beer, Human Waste, Silver, Brazil Wood, Sugar, Garden Plants

Reading Examples: Spices, Wheat

STEP 2: In a word document create a time line for your 3 commodities using the time periods we discussed in class or were indicated in the readings. Put the historical time period in parenthesis before each of your 3 commodities.

STEP 3: **You may NOT use outside research for this part. This is in part an examination of your engagement with the course materials as they were presented in class**

After each commodity summarize the relationship between human production and/or consumption of each commodity and it’s environmental impacts as we discussed it in class or in the readings. What were key events, people, and/or processes connected to this commodity? What were the key arguments that we examined in class when looking at this commodity? How did the historical time period influence the way that commodity was used or produced? Be sure to use specific details such as names and dates in describing your commodity. Each summary should be a minimum of 6 sentences in length.

STEP 4: Write a 1-2 paragraph summary of what can be learned by examining the production or consumption of these three commodities together. Include a discussion that links the historical examination of these commodities to the current issue presented in the introductory lesson for the unit. After completing the exercise on a Word document, review it, save it, and then submit it to the Issue #1 Dropbox. A paragraph is 6-8 sentences in length.
