Scenario Information

You are a mentor teacher at All Kids Childcare and Education. Part of your job is to ensure that teachers work well together. Recently, you heard from a teacher that co-teachers Julie and Kimberly were not speaking to each other. You did an informal observation of the two teachers working in the two-year-olds classroom and found that they were not communicating at all. Their non-verbal communication to each other was cold and at times rude. You know the importance of co-teachers working well together for the benefit of the children.

You called Julie and Kimberly into your office and asked them what was going on. They immediately started to tell their sides of the story and were talking over each other. It took patience, but you finally got both teachers side of the story straight. Julie was upset because she felt like Kimberly did not change her share of the diapers. Kimberly felt that she did all of the meal preparation and cleaning, so when Julie spoke to her about changing more diapers, she became upset. You know that you must work with these two teachers to help them settle their conflict.

Instructions

Use what you know about effective communication and communication styles to write a script to show how to resolve this conflict. Write the script (with dialogue formatted in the style of a play) to describe what happens next. Be sure to choose a conflict resolution strategy that best handles the situation and include action descriptions in your script.

It is important that you try to see this situation from both sides. The script should include the three of you talking. Clearly mark what you would say, as well as how each of the teachers would respond. Be specific and give the teachers background storylines that align with the reasons they are upset. Your script should give each teacher fair opportunities to state their case, while you use conflict resolution terminology from this module. Your script should be at least three pages in length and well-edited. Please include a cover page.
